After dominating the Melbourne Ice 8-2 in the Quarter Final round at AWIHL finals weekend, and 5 point games from both Sharna Godfrey and Stephenie Cochrane, the Sirens couldn't muster the energy to go all the way.
Melbourne smashed through the Brisbane Goannas in the semi-finals to create a rematch of last years gold medal game between the Sirens and the Ice. While the Ice scored first, the Sirens were able to match them goal for goal ending regulation time in a 6-6 tie. Overtime solved nothing, and a shootout was needed. Shooting for Sirens was Stephenie Cochrane, Andrea Steranko, and Sharna Godfrey, with Godfrey being the lone goal scorer. Kristelle Vanderwolf and Georgia Carson both scored for Melbourne to solidify their gold medal.
Despite the loss, it was a big night for the Sirens with the team winning four of the five season awards including:
Highest Pointscorer: Sharna Godfrey (Sydney Sirens)
Best Forward: Sharna Godfrey (Sydney Sirens)
Best Defence: Amelia Matheson (Sydney Sirens)
Best Goalie: Michelle Coonan (Sydney Sirens)
Best Rookie: Emily Davis-Tope (Melbourne Ice)
Following finals, Remi Harvey, Sharna Godfrey, Sharnita Crompton, Michelle Coonan and Kath Mcconie headed to Prague and Spain to compete in the Division 2B IIHF Women's World Champions where they dominated and claimed a gold. Australia will move up to Division 2A for next years wold's tournament. CONGRATULATIONS LADIES!
